Nepotism and Favoritism: Not limited to Bollywood only!

2020 has been hectic and not much workaholic. People said this year must be canceled. This year taught everyone a few new words which we will never forget because these words are repetitively used in the media again and again. Words like nepotism and favoritism, COVID-19, quarantine, etc., were frequently used. People whosoever watched mainstream media learned new terminologies.

Nepotism and favoritism is the now-famous term going on in the mainstream news media channels now. nepotism and favoritism mean favoring your close ones in filling positions and getting work easily. It is done by powerful people like industrialists or celebrities who are successful and then they bring their children, their known ones into the same field by favoring them. It is there in Bollywood but not confined to it only. It is there in almost all the fields, industries, and streams we know today.

In Which All Industries Is Nepotism and Favoritism Applicable?

Nepotism & Favoritism In Bollywood

Bollywood is prominent in terms of nepotism . Take Rishi Kapoor and his son Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and his son Harshvardhan Kapoor, Salman Khan and his brother in law, Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter Alia Bhatt, and so on. For all the actors and actresses, it was quite easy to enter Bollywood because of their parents (they are famous) and directors like Karan Johar who launched Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan), Ananya Pandey (Chunky Pandey’s daughter), etc., So, Bollywood is quite famous for nepotism and favoritism because celebrities do a favor to their young ones.

Nepotism & Favoritism In Politics

As I mentioned earlier nepotism and favoritism,  it is not just limited to Bollywood, it is also applicable to politics. If we take the Gandhi family, for instance, Jawaharlal Nehru and his daughter, Indira Gandhi, then Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and now Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi followed by Tejaswi Yadav son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, and so on. If this isn’t nepotism, then what is?

Nepotism & Favoritism In Corporate jobs

In companies and organizations, favoritism is also there. Take Mukesh Ambani for example, his daughter is working with him, his son is working with him and even his wife is working and all this is nepotism. Including your kids, your wives in companies is also a kind of favor where you are choosing your close ones over other people.

Nepotism & Favoritism In Education

In the education sector also, people who are in higher posts do favors on their family members and relatives, even many students are favored and get easy admissions in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. And then other people do work hard to get hired and get admissions.

Nepotism & Favoritism In Sports

Favoritism is also applicable in sports. In cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is a renowned cricketer, internationally and now his son is also into cricket and getting world-class facilities.

Why Nepotism and Favoritism Is Bad?

Nepotism and favoritismis bad, but why?

Talent is at bay

When favoritism comes into play, talent is limited. Most of the people don’t have the required skills when they join initially. But money is all you need to serve that. Not everyone is talented who comes into power.

Easy for some and difficult for rest

For many people, it becomes easy to get included in many fields. But for the rest, it is difficult even if they are skilled. For instance, there are many aspiring cricketers in our country, but only a few are selected and some are favored by their parent’s power, money, and statuses.

Bad impression

Nepotism and favoritism also pass a negative impression on existing employees or other students. It gives a bad impression on other people and they might not work effectively.

Lack of opportunities

It also decreases the opportunities for many skilled people as several job opportunities, or vacancies are filled up with these people only. So, only a few opportunities are left for other people.

Hinders Growth

Nepotism  hinder the personal growth of an individual and hence they can’t grow personally and professionally as well.

Conclusion

Nepotism and favoritism are not just confined to Bollywood only. It is applicable in almost every field. I would request the media to focus on other aspects of nepotism and favoritism also. They should explore nepotism and favoritism in other industries as well. Just blaming one industry is not good. I am not being biased here. I just want them to be fair with everyone.

Arre bhai, Bollywood ke aage bhi or duniya hai. toh, please stop this kind of negative information.”

Nepotism and favoritism is the natural tendency of human beings for many people. My father wants me to take over his business is a simple concept to carry forward the legacy of family businesses. It is also a kind of partiality not fully applicable. But for large businesses, it is not favorable to fill in positions as other people need the job or this work.
