India VS South Africa Women’s Cricket Series.

Indian women’s cricket team is set to return on the field after a long gap. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many sectors were affected and the sports sector was also one of these. The Indian men’s cricket team had played domestic and international series, but the Indian women’s cricket team was away from it. Recently, BCCI announced the schedule and squad for India versus South Africa. The series was planned to be taken place at Thiruvananthapuram and then Bengaluru. But the committee did not got approval there.

The Selection Committee (All-India Women) selected the squads for the India Women team’s upcoming ODI and T20I series against South Africa Women. This series will consist of five ODIs and three T20Is. The South Africa contingent will be in quarantine for six days. The tournament begins with the first ODI match on March 7th, with all matches which are scheduled to be held at Lucknow’s Ekana International Stadium (Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee).

The south-African coach said, “It is really exciting to finally have this tour confirmed and announce our squad that will do duty here in India, and we are looking forward to getting out there to see our ladies prove themselves under different playing conditions. India is always a wonderful place to tour and we are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”

The Squad Of India And South Africa Teams

Cricket South Africa (CSA) decided on a 17 cricketers squad for the upcoming series, which is an away from the home tour. The Head coach Hilton Moreeng and his team arrived in India on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Dane van Niekerk (usually leads the team), Chloe Tryon (an all-rounder), and Masabata Klaas (medium-pacer) will miss this series due to their injuries. All the ODIs will be an integral part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as the skipper of the T20I team, while Mithali Raj will head the ODI team. However, Shikha Pandey, Ekta Bisht, Veda Krishnamurthy, and Taniya Bhatia were not selected for this tournament.

India women did not participate in any international match since the final match of the WWC (Women’s T20 World Cup) in Melbourne held on March 8. Both the teams will go into quarantine for six days and all the matches will take place in a bio-secure bubble. This means no crowd will be allowed for this tournament. This series is sponsored by Paytm.

Meanwhile, BCCI is also planning to organize the domestic tournament for the women’s team. Senior women’s one-day league might be held this month at various locations in India.
