Young Indian talents to watch out

Uma Chetry

Uma Chetry, a 21-year-old cricketer from Assam, has become the first woman cricketer from her state to be selected for the Indian squad. She is a right-handed batter and she made her debut for Assam in 2018. Chetry’s passion for cricket led her to quit her studies after completing matriculation to support her family by working on local farms. Chetry’s journey to the national team began with her exceptional performances in the recent U-23 Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong, where India A emerged victorious by defeating Bangladesh in the final. Her skills as a wicketkeeper-batter caught the attention of the national selectors, resulting in her selection for the upcoming tour.

Rashi Kanojiya

Rashi Kanojiya, a 25-year-old left-arm spinner from Agra, has become the latest from the city’s cricket nurseries to be selected for the Indian squad. She made her debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2016, and she has since gone on to represent India A and India U-23. Kanojiya’s journey to the national team began with her exceptional performances in the recent Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy, where she was the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets in six matches. Her ability to turn the ball away from the right-handers caught the attention of the national selectors, resulting in her selection for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

Minnu Mani

Minnu Mani, a 21-year-old cricketer from Kerala, has become the first woman cricketer from the state to be selected for the Indian squad. Minnu Mani, an allrounder, has been selected for the Bangladesh tour. Minnu comes from a humble background. Her father, Mani CK, earns his living as a daily wage labourer, and her mother, Vasantha, looks after household chores. Minnu helped rebuild their house that got swept away due to landslides during the Kerala floods in 2018. She was also picked by the Delhi Capitals in the WPL where she played three games for them. And now, Minnu has got the ultimate honour of being selected for India.

Anusha Bareddy

Anusha Bareddy, hailing from a humble farming background in Bandlapalli, Andhra Pradesh, has overcome great odds to earn a spot in the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. Recognized as a standout left-arm spinner and batter, she will proudly represent Team India in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Her inspiring journey showcases the power of determination, talent, and overcoming challenges. From rural-level cricket competitions to the prestigious RDT Academy, Anusha’s hard work and continuous efforts propelled her career to new heights. Her selection in the national team marks a significant milestone in her journey.
